Data methodology

Where our IPO data comes from, how often it changes, and how we handle unofficial figures and errors.

Last updated: 30 September 2026

Niva Market Watch is an IPO information website. Most of what you see is data we collect automatically from public sources, stored in our own database and then shown on IPO, subscription, GMP, allotment and calendar pages. Pages never fetch data live from a source when you open them; they show the latest values in our database along with when those values were last updated.

Sources by type of data

Each data page lists the sources actually used for the figures on it. We do not credit NSE or BSE for figures that did not come from them.

How often data is updated

  • Issue details are synced from exchange public-issue data on an hourly schedule, and IPO statuses (upcoming, open, closed, listed) are recalculated hourly. If an exchange source is unavailable, the last recorded values stay in place.
  • Subscription and GMP collection is scheduled every 30 minutes from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM IST. Each figure is stored with the date it applies to, and pages show that date. These are not real-time figures.
  • Automated consistency checks run daily: issue details are compared between sources, conflicts are flagged rather than overwritten, and duplicates are detected.
  • Weekly roundups are generated every Monday from the database.

Data can occasionally be delayed — for example when a source changes its format or blocks automated access. When that happens figures stay at their last recorded value and date rather than being estimated.

Official vs unofficial data

Official data comes from the exchanges, SEBI, registrars or the company's own filings. Unofficial data — mainly GMP — comes from informal markets that are not regulated. We keep the two visibly separate: GMP is always labelled “unofficial”, shown with its date and accompanied by caveats, and it is never used in our written market summaries.

How GMP is treated

  • We record the quote published by our source; we do not adjust, average or forecast it.
  • We show the date of the reading and, where the price band is known, what the premium is as a percentage of the upper band.
  • We do not call a GMP “good” or “bad”, and we do not present it as an expected listing price.

How subscription data is checked

A weighted overall subscription multiple must lie between the lowest and highest category multiples. When a source row fails that test, we show only the overall figure and state that the category figures did not reconcile, rather than publishing numbers that cannot all be right.

Written summaries

Summaries on the homepage and IPO pages are generated from the stored facts for that issue. If a fact is missing, the sentence that would use it is left out. They describe; they do not evaluate or recommend. Guides and articles are written by the editorial team — see the editorial policy.

Corrections and reporting an error

If you spot a mistake, email jaypatel2157@gmail.com with the page, the value and ideally a link to the official source. We change data only once it can be confirmed against a primary source. Full details are in the corrections policy.
